K for Klaatu

First of all, I've never watched the 1951 version of "The Day The Earth Stood Still". So, I've no idea what the movie is about and how the 2008 version is gonna be.

The sci-fi genre is not appealing to my taste, honestly speaking. I shun Aliens vs Predators, which is too harsh and violent! The Day The Earth Stood Still turns out to be very mild, melancholic, and not too 'alien'.

One more thing, it's good to see that the two leading characters are not intimately related, like what happened in The Incredible Hulk (I almost puked while watching the lovey-dovey, "please-don't-hurt-him!" scenes).

Keanu Reeves (as Klaatu, the alien) and Jennifer Connelly (as Dr. Helen Benson, an astrobiologist) stay "professional", as depicted throughout the whole film. Klaatu's final decision to stop the earth from total destruction is due to his seeing of the other side of humanity, not due to love between a man and a woman. Of course, he's an alien and aliens are not supposed to know how humans are feeling, but who knows? May be the next movie would be about the tragic love of an ET with a man/woman. (*eyes rolling*)

Anyway, it's up to you, whether you want to watch or not. There are neither action nor intimate scenes, not even heart-wrenching or tear-provoking scenes. But CGI does play a big role here. There are moments I want to slap the boy (Jaden Smith as Jacob Bensen, Helen's young stepson) to shut him up though. Lol...

The best conversation thus far:
Officer: Are you aware of an impending attack on planet Earth?
Klaatu: You should let me go.
